Deciding to pursue a creative career, I enrolled as a Digital Art Major at Elon University in 2007. It was there that I worked as a designer for Elon’s Cultural Events center, designing innovative advertisements for upcoming campus events. These ads varied from poster designs to t-shirts, flyers, and digitally displayed signage.
A normal semester’s coursework for myself could have included digital or film photography, website design, digital art, or even film writing. As I continued to fill myself with new knowledge, I also remained active in the artistic community. I obtained the prestigious position of Art Editor for the annually released Colonnades Literary and Art Journal of Elon University. Advertising for submissions, organizing a panel of judges, accepting and rejecting work, designing the print layout, and planning a gallery opening were just some of my responsibilities.
Fast-forward to May 2010, and my undergraduate college career was coming to an end. Each senior art major was required to complete our individual thesis work by creating original work, getting approval from a staff panel, presenting our work to the student body during a 30 minute speech, and displaying our artwork in three professional gallery settings.
College quickly came to an end, but the creative process never does. In summer 2010, I interned as a designer and photographer for Time Out NY Magazine in Manhattan. A few months later, I was offered my choice of two positions, Online Photo Editor or Assistant Digital Imaging Specialist. As hard as the choice was, I accepted the job as an imaging specialist and I now work directly with the designers in producing digitally manipulated photographs for the weekly published magazine.
My work at Time Out NY is just one aspect of my professional career. I am also an avid freelancer, constantly creating posters, ads, and logos for small businesses and professionals. In late 2011, I was given the opportunity to work as a design consultant for Siemens Foundation, a non-profit segment of Siemens Corporation. Here, I design print advertisements, media screens, certificates, banners, posters, etc. Working at Siemens Foundation has provided me with the valuable experience of working for a non-profit organization, which supplies millions of dollars in college scholarships to eligible students every year. The company hosts the Siemens Westinghouse Competition, a prestigious science award for high school students in the United States, and also is involved in the Siemens AP Scholar Award. I am proud to be apart of this organization that promotes growth, education, and a bright future for today’s children.
I am always open to discussions, questions, information, etc., so please feel free to contact me at any time. Thanks for visiting my website!
